Hi, I’m Kirsten, the Owner and Founder of Daybreak Counseling. I’m a Licensed Independent Social Worker in the states of Iowa and Indiana, and I’m deeply committed to building a practice rooted in thoughtful, evidence-based, and individualized care.
I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in 2011, double majoring in psychology and criminal justice (Go Cyclones), and completed my Master of Social Work in 2017 at Our Lady of the Lake University. My clinical experience spans a wide range of settings, including residential care, community-based BHIS services, EAP programs, intensive outpatient (IOP), school-based services, and private practice. I’ve had the privilege of working with children, adolescents, adults, and families across many stages of life.
My clinical training includes EMDR, I-CBT, ERP, Brainspotting, ACT, mindfulness-based approaches, and play-based interventions. I support clients navigating anxiety, depression, PTSD, mood and personality disorders, attachment-related wounds, and major life transitions. I am especially passionate about working with attachment-related trauma and the ways early experiences shape our sense of safety, identity, and connection.
As the founder of Daybreak, I remain actively engaged in ongoing learning and advancements in mental health care, including collaborative medication management, GeneSight® testing, and QbCheck® assessments. I’m equally committed to supporting our clinicians in their continued growth, so our clients receive care that is both current and deeply human. I believe informed, individualized treatment empowers people to make confident, meaningful decisions about their mental health and their future.
I believe you are the ultimate expert in your life and have the potential for healing within you already. Within a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment (sprinkled with a little humor), we can work together to help you meet the goals you have set for yourself. Whether this is your first time, or you’ve had therapy before, I welcome you in taking this step towards taking good care of you. My approach to care is collaborative, compassionate, and client-centered. I believe therapy is not about fixing people, but about creating space to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with oneself in a way that feels safe and sustainable.
At Daybreak, I work closely with clinicians who support individuals and families navigating stress, burnout, trauma, emotional regulation challenges, and identity shifts. I value thoughtful pacing, nervous system awareness, and practical tools that clients can carry with them beyond the therapy room.
Whether someone is seeking therapy, medication services, or advanced assessments, my vision is that every client feels respected, informed, and supported throughout their care journey.
Daybreak Counseling was born from a desire to do things differently. After years of working within existing systems, I recognized the need for a practice that felt both clinically strong and deeply human, a place where care didn’t feel rushed, fragmented, or transactional.
I envisioned a practice where clinicians are supported, collaboration is encouraged, and clients receive care that adapts to their lives rather than asking them to fit into rigid structures. Daybreak was created to be that space – steady, inclusive, and responsive to the real complexities people bring with them.
Today, Daybreak Counseling continues to grow – offering therapy, medication management, telehealth services, and innovative assessment tools. While the practice has expanded, its foundation remains the same: trauma-informed care, thoughtful clinical decision-making, and genuine respect for every individual who walks through the door all in a calm and cooperative environment.
Launching and growing a private practice can feel overwhelming at times. Through my experience founding and expanding Daybreak Counseling, I’ve gained firsthand insight into what it takes to build a successful, sustainable practice. I enjoy sharing that knowledge with other mental health professionals, helping them find clarity and confidence as they establish their own path.
There are many moving parts—managing overhead, navigating insurance processes, creating effective policies, and more. If you’re interested in a consultation to discuss practice setup or growth strategies, please reach out via email Kirsten@daybreakcounselinginc.com and include “Business Consulting” in the subject line.
Outside of my work, I am a devoted mother to one son and a proud dog mom to two very loved pups. I am an avid Iowa State Cyclone and Green Bay Packers fan, with a moderate Disney obsession. I enjoy reading and watching suspense/crime books and shows, baking, walking, drinking coffee with friends, doing puzzles, and adventuring with my family.
At my core, I value motherhood, partnership, curiosity, and creating a life rooted in intention, connection, and growth. These values shape not only my personal life, but the culture and care philosophy at Daybreak Counseling.
