Alex Bitting, BA

Graduate Student in Clinical Mental Health

Meet Alex, a passionate and dedicated intern counselor at Daybreak Counseling. Alex is currently pursuing his graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Bellevue University.

As a transgender male, military veteran, adoptee, adoptive parent, and mobile crisis first responder with the Des Moines Police Department, Alex brings a wealth of personal and professional experience to his counseling practice. He is deeply committed to providing inclusive, affirming care to individuals of all backgrounds, with a focus on breaking down stereotypes and reducing stigma surrounding mental health. With experience working with a diverse range of individuals – queer youth and adults, adopted youth, trauma survivors, military veterans, among others – Alex has developed a specialized approach to counseling. He is passionate about surrounding those navigating identity, trauma, self-harm, suicide prevention, and overcoming life’s many challenges. He enjoys working with kids, adolescents, teenagers, in addition to adults. While his style is direct, Alex is known for his deep empathy and compassion, ensuring clients feel understood and supported.

Outside of work, Alex enjoys spending time with his family, whether playing board games, exploring new foods, or juggling the excitement of everyday life. He is a fan of DIY projects, sports, concerts, and traveling – finding joy in creating lasting memories and staying grounded through a strong support system and regular self-care.

Alex is excited to continue his journey as a counselor and looks forward to supporting those he works with in their pursuit of healing and growth.
